Working to a Deadline

Australian Artist Cover
Summer Beach scenes are happy, care free days we love to share. Favourite haunts and classic scenes are all fodder for Craig's brush. The beautiful blues that dominate this beach scene on the cover of Australian Artist magazine was chosen by the editor to highlight a holiday feeling that many of Craig's paintings evoke. |
Just Attack it!
Setting a deadline when painting from photos encourages spontaneity and originality. "I think that to paint a successful painting is not so much to have tamed the beast, rather to have been taken along for the ride and still be there at the end of the experience. For me painting is like life ... give yourself enough skills, knowledge and integrity, and then set yourself free to take what is thrown your way. You don't need to tame and control the painting for magic to happen ... you just need to be there at the end." Craig paints the well known and colorful Ormiston Gorge in Central Australia. |
The Artist Magazine UK - Painting Cambodia
Craig Penny finds an abundance of subject material in the local villages, markets, Angkor temples and the streets of Siem Reap in Cambodia.
Here Craig recreates a scene in acrylics and offers advice on how to work out your paintings using photographs. Top selling art magazine in the UK and around the world, The Artist magazine has a "how to article" by Craig demonstrating his technique with acrylics in a typical local river village scene in Siem Reap near Angkor Wat temples. "We sat and sketched this scene on the riverbank on our last Painting Holiday" says Craig, "it was a fantastic day out where we produced several watercolours to capture the moment, took some photos on the iPad and I have used these to aid me in painting this urban riverscape that is so unique to this region". |
